Copyright Pointers


  • You will not get a notice stating that the Copyright Office has received your application. You can, however, send your application by registered or certified mail with a return receipt requested, and you will know the day the package was received.
  • If there is a problem with your application, you'll get a letter or telephone call seeking more information or a letter explaining that the application was rejected.
  • You will receive a certificate of registration.

Searching Copyright Information

  • You can search the Copyright Office's records of copyright and registration from January 1, 1978 forward on your computer. Access through the Internet is possible at www.loc.gov/copyright/rb.html. If you have Telnet access, go to locis.loc.gov.
